Let there be more light. . .

So Shayners sent me a link to some items I might love and I do heart these pendant lamps from Design Within Reach (I've swooned over them at the Jackson Square location). Don't think I would actually get these for my room make over. But I heart them. I am definitely on a big lighting kick right now. Boring huh?

Older brother Lampie. . .

lamp, originally uploaded by marascotia.

Hopefully my new lamp will get along with my old one. Here is an older yellow lamp I got for $5.99 at Thrift Town. I added a new lampshade. Everyone suggested getting a dark lampshade, but I am into the clean white look.

A crackling base

Here is a close up for the lamp I just found. I love the cracks under the glaze. Not sure what this effect is called. . . .But super pretty.

A new lamp. . .

I think a bonus to living in San Francisco is the tendency for people to leave unwanted things on the street (though I would never take a pillow or a couch, too scared of bedbugs!). Like this beautiful yellow lamp for example that I found literally 20 feet from my home. I know it looks very similar to my other yellow lamp. But they are very distinct. Now the two lamps match!

I want to rearrange the closet too. . .

Clothes, originally uploaded by marascotia.

Ok so I need to really get to work instead of just show off what I haven't worked on. I got distracted by a trip to Bass Lake and Treasure Island Music Festival. I swear this week I will at least put up new shade hangings.

Vintage luggage

storage, originally uploaded by marascotia.

So instead of typical boxes in my closet, I have been storing seasonal items like scarves and mittens in old vintage suitcases. Not sure this is the easiest way to store things, but at least you can't tell what mess lies inside. I also hide old journals and photo albums in here too.

Chest of Drawers to exit my life!

Along with the aforementioned bookshelf, I also plan to get rid of this set of white drawers. Oh and I am so sick of these sheer curtains. Good riddance!

In with the new

Bed, originally uploaded by marascotia.

I am going to get rid of the bookshelf and the white chest of drawers I have (see above ugly green shabby chic). I have been coveting mid-century danish dressers in dark woods. yum.

My fabric

So I am planning on doing some matching pillows and some shade hangings with this fabric. Maybe the vanity stool can be in this fabric too (though that might be too matchy matchy).

Besides my bed there is really only one piece of furniture I'd like to keep in my room and this is a vanity I got for $80 at that place the Touch (or maybe it is called A Touch of Class?) on Valencia. I want to go more modern but still keep this vanity. Maybe I can get a vanity chair, and cover it with fabric.

One thing that doesn't need a makeover. . .

builtinsink, originally uploaded by marascotia.

That would be the built-in sink right when you enter my bedroom. I inherited the room (and the sink) from my friend (and former roommate) who inspired me to start this blog. Check out her makeover of an entire house at her blog thecabinhouse

Oh how I love this sink.

The before pics. . .

entrance3, originally uploaded by marascotia.

To every makeover story there are always the "before" shots. Usually the "befores" include acne scars and size 45 pants. My room doesn't have acne scars but it does need a makeover. Here is the entrance to my bedroom. It's time for a makeover. I love the hardwood floors and the crown mouldings, but the room needs to feel like it is mine.
